A Tribute To Hope
Partnership with Susan G. Komen Foundation of Western New York
In the heart of Buffalo, picture a place where every tree and flowering shrub stands as a tribute to life, survival and the promise of hope; each pathway and park bench, a space for remembrance and reflection. Picture too, each feature of this place directly supporting research to find a cure for breast cancer.
In partnership with the Western New York affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy is pleased to announce the Susan G. Komen Grove, at the Agassiz entrance of Delaware Park honoring the lives of the brave individuals who have fought with breast cancer and directly supporting the promise of a cure in our lifetime.
As family and friends remember and pay tribute to their loved one by planting a tree or a flowering shrub or by dedicating a park bench, the impact of their contribution will double. Their tangible gift in the grove will stand as a sign of love and admiration for these courageous women, while a part of their donation will go directly to the Susan G. Komen Foundation of WNY to support their promise to defeat breast cancer. In the heart of the grove in Delaware Park, a boulder will hold a plaque engraved with the names of those honored in this Olmsted green space, a symbol of unmovable determination to find a cure.
“This grove will grow over the years in size and beauty restoring a vital section of the park just as Susan G. Komen is working to restore hope for a cure to this terrible disease,” says Thomas Herrera-Mishler, president and CEO of the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy.
Beginning this fall, the BOPC will offer the opportunity for sponsors of the grove to plant their own trees at one of our community tree planting days in Delaware Park. Sponsors will work with the BOPC Landscape Architect to select a tree species that is in keeping with the historic Olmsted landscape. The board of directors of the Susan G. Komen Foundation of WNY has already committed to sponsor the first park bench for the grove to be officially installed at this planting as well.
Join this tribute to life and hope. Sponsor a tree, pink flowering bush, bouquet of pink spring blossoms or a beautiful park bench in honor of a loved one who has bravely fought breast cancer.
All gifts will be planted or placed during the Conservancy's November tree planting dates.
